I'm ready for my new family!

Baxter

I'm Available

Oh hello there! My name is Baxter but my foster family also calls me Bax and Hunka Chunka. I’m not sure why they call me Hunka Chunka, but the nickname has stuck and I kind of like it!

I’m around 5 years old, part French Bulldog, and possibly part Boston Terrier, but one thing’s for sure – I’m super cute, so let’s just go with that! I’m a fun, energetic guy looking for a quieter forever home.

I’ve been living with my BT foster sister and we get along well. However, every now and then, if she has something I want or if things get really exciting and I get too wound up, I can get aggressive towards her. It’s not intentional because I do love her, but it happens. I’d probably do better in a home with just grown-up humans and no other furry family members.

Super dedicated to being your shadow, wherever you go, I go. Need a drink? Me too. Getting your notebook? Me too. Gotta ‘go’? Me too. I’ll even meet you in the bathroom! Seriously, I just want to be near you all the time, which my foster family loves, but it can be tough when they go out.

I’ve been working on crate training, and I’ve gotten really good at sleeping in my crate at night. My foster parent put my crate beside their bed, and I sleep there all night with the door closed. When daylight comes, I ask to get out and then I get to spend some time in bed with those two-legged ones I mentioned earlier! I’ve started liking my crate during the day too; it’s become my safe space. What worries me is when I’m left alone in my crate and no humans are home – I don’t like that. But I’m getting better at trusting that my family will return soon. Sometimes I’ll bark, whine, or howl if when they are away. Hey, nodoggy’s perfect. But I’m working on it.

As for training, I can sit, lie down, shake a paw, and even give a high five for a treat! I come when called “most of the time,” and even a whistle or clap can grab my attention and bring me running to you. I just want to be by your side, so it’s best if we stick together.

I get to go on lots of car rides with my foster dad, which I really love! I ride in the backseat with my own seatbelt. Sometimes, if it’s a longer trip, I’ll take a nap. Car rides are one of my favourite things.

I also enjoy long romantic walks on the beach. Just kidding! (Although a beach walk might be fun…) It’s better if it’s just you and me on our walk, because when my foster sister comes along, I need to lead the way and can pull on the leash. No one likes that! Sometimes I can be a bit moody on walks, especially if I see a bigger dog being walked by someone else. When I see dogs bigger than me, watch out! I’ll bark to protect you and let everyone know I’m here. But I’m easy to divert with a change in direction or a treat.

All my vetting up to date, like shots and poop and bug testing. I’m microchipped, I had a dental, and I was neutered – but let’s not talk about that. I have been taking a drug called Apoquel (monthly cost approximately $79) to help me with some itchy skin, but I’m not taking it right now. I may need it or another allergy treatment in the future, depending on how I do with just my special diet.

So, if you’re searching for a furry best friend who’s not only adorable but also an expert cuddler, look no further because I’m your man! With my charming, good looks and heart-melting kisses, I promise to fill your days with unconditional love and to be by your side through thick and thin. Let’s make unforgettable memories together!

Hopefully, I had you at “Hello”!

If there is one word to describe Baxter it’s loyal. He’s his foster dad’s shadow and accompanies him wherever he goes. When he found out that dad needed to plant a new tree, Baxter got right to work – digging holes is his specialty!

Baxter also likes to take on the role of backyard security. While he thinks he’s protecting his family by patrolling the fence and those who come near, his foster dad is working on showing Baxter that they are safe and his efforts are not needed (and not always appreciated by neighbours).

Baxter’s also trying to win the award of “Best Crate Companion.” If his foster family is home, Baxter has learned to enjoy his crate time. However, when he’s left alone, his separation anxiety causes him stress. This is a work in progress and Baxter’s future family will need to continue to work on this with him – especially because Baxter will be up for adoption soon!

Lookin' Good Baxter!

Foster Baxter is catching some rays in style! When it comes to warm weather, Baxter is happy to find a sunny spot to relax in. From day one in foster care, Baxter has made it clear that he loves to nap and just ‘chill.’

Another thing his foster family has learned – he’s quite the fashionista! While he knows the importance of eye protection when out in the sun, he can’t deny that he’s one handsome fella and sunglasses take his ‘cool dude’ persona up a notch!

Baxter's been taking it easy!

BTRC foster Baxter was recently neutered and though he isn’t impressed with the cone, he’s loving the extra attention from his foster family. He can’t get enough of his humans and wherever they are, that’s where he wants to be.

His BT foster sister has welcomed Baxter with open paws, and while he’s excited to have a playmate, he doesn’t quite understand the concept of sharing. Baxter can be a bit possessive of his toys, so when it’s playtime, his foster family has decided that Baxter needs to enjoy toys in solitude.

When it comes to snuggling, however, Baxter enjoys company – whether it’s his foster sister or his humans! Luckily for him, everyone in his household is well-versed in cuddles and TLC, so his recovery should be a quick and sweet one. ❤

Introducing Baxter!

This handsome Boston-Frenchie mix recently joined the BTRC family. Baxter was having trouble adjusting to a change that found him spending much of the day on his own, so it was decided that he would be happier with a family who could spend more time with him. Once we get to know him better and bring his vetting up to date, we will find him just the right one!

So far, Baxter has been a polite houseguest and even aced his first meeting with a feline!  Described as a “very sweet-natured” dog, Baxter is content to lounge around the house and snuggle with his humans. When taken to the pet store to buy a harness, he was a very good boy, patiently trying on five different options while being surrounded by dogs and kids.

As Baxter gets acquainted with his new digs, he plans to lay low, play with his BT foster sister and accept all the pets he can get. ❤

Baxter is being fostered in Calgary, AB and is not yet ready for adoption.
