Foster

We are currently in urgent need of pet-free and adult-only foster homes across Canada

Boston Terrier Rescue Canada receives requests for help from across the country. While we can't predict where the next dog may be located, we are committed to expanding our network of volunteer foster homes across Canada so we can be ready to save dogs in need, wherever they may be.

We sincerely appreciate all who apply to foster, but we are presently prioritizing applications from pet-free/adult-only homes or from those with dog training experience and/or the ability to separate the foster dog from their own dog(s).

Since we don’t always know a foster dog’s history or tolerance level for different situations, it is our usual policy not to place foster dogs in homes with children under six out of concern for everyone’s safety.

Our need for specific types of foster homes can change, so please check back in future if you do not meet the current requirements.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Why Foster?

Boston Terrier Rescue Canada (BTRC) has no shelter or boarding facility, so all dogs stay in volunteer foster homes until forever homes can be found.

As a foster caregiver, you will commit to providing a temporary home for your foster dog until they are adopted. Based on the information we have, we do our best to match you with a dog that suits your home.

It can be difficult to predict how long they will be in your care. Every dog is different and will different levels of medical care and training. Very few things, however, are more rewarding than taking in a sad, lonely, despondent dog and seeing them blossom into a loving, happy, and healthy companion. When they leave for their new forever home, you will have the joy of knowing the part you played in making it all possible!

BTRC will supply the resources you need while the dog is in your care. We cover all approved veterinary costs and have trainers who will work with you to guide you through any behavioural issues that may arise. We can also supply essentials such as harnesses, leashes, collars, crates, etc. Some fosters choose to provide food for their foster dog, and while it is appreciated, it is not a requirement of fostering.

You will provide your foster dog with a safe, nurturing environment and emotional support during this crucial transitional time. You will need to travel to veterinary appointments, administer any necessary medications, and, with the support needed, provide any training required.

Interested in making a life-changing difference
in a rescue dog’s life?

To start your rewarding fostering experience, please complete our Foster Application. A member of our volunteer team will review it and then contact you to discuss the next steps, so keep an eye on your email.

The purpose of the home visit is to allow our volunteer to meet everyone in the home, including other pets, and to check out where the foster dog will be staying. It’s a second set of eyes to help identify possible safety concerns and make suggestions – we don’t bring our white gloves! It’s also your chance to speak with a BTRC volunteer and get answers to any questions you may have.
