AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION: PETIT ROCKY

Rocky’s expression might sometimes seem a bit unimpressed, but don’t let that fool you – he’s a fun-loving guy once you get to know him! With a little time, you’ll see his affectionate side shine through. Quite expressive with his emotions, Rocky will let you know if he’s not feeling it and may need some space. When he’s in the mood, however, he’s all about cuddles and hugs (though kisses are reserved for special occasions). Rest assured, his hugs are truly top-notch!

Rocky is attentive and responds well when called. He enjoys his walks and is well-behaved on the leash. He loves any type of toy he can get his paws on, but he’s also content to snuggle under a blanket on the couch. While he doesn’t have a crate which he occasionally uses when he wants his own space, he’s fine alone and loose in the house. Rocky is a sun-seeker, and a vigilant defender of carpets (he’s not fond of vacuums). Plus, he has some impressive dance moves, including a signature hip thrust!

Rocky is in great health overall! One ear is a bit folded over from past infections, but he gets ear drops every 4-5 days to keep things in check. He’s not too fond of them, but he’s motivated by a little carrot, cucumber, or broccoli treat. The drops are inexpensive, under $30, and last for 5-6 months. He also takes a small dose of Apoquel daily to help with his allergies, mixed right into his dinner. The cost is $172.98 for a two-month supply, but buying in bulk could lower the price.

Rocky is friendly with other dogs and is generally good at making new canine friends. He may come on a bit strong initially due to his enthusiasm but learns to respect boundaries with time. With a playful and patient canine sibling and proper introductions, Rocky should do well in a home with another dog. He hasn’t lived with a cat in his foster home, so we can’t be certain how he would react. His only experience with a cat was a brief encounter while out visiting at another house. He didn’t interact with the cat but was definitely curious and interested.

Rocky also does well with the two young children who visit his foster home. While he was initially a bit nippy, he has made great strides and is now more at ease with being handled. He’s become more comfortable with being picked up and put down in different ways without getting upset. His trust issues are improving, and he’s growing more relaxed and confident, so a home with respectful, dog-savvy children could be a good fit for him. He would also, of course, be happy in an adult-only home.

Rocky is a charming and loving dog who, with a bit of patience, will reveal his affectionate nature. His progress with handling, interactions with children, and playfulness with other dogs show how he is able to adapt and thrive in a nurturing environment. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will return your love with his best hugs, Rocky is eager to share his life with you. We’re excited to find the perfect home for him and would love to hear from you. To make Rocky a part of your family, please fill out an application form HERE!

Petit Rocky is Six!

BTRC foster Rocky recently celebrated his sixth birthday. His foster family bought him a new hat and toy to celebrate the occasion. He had mixed feelings about the hat, but he was thrilled with his new green chewie!

Though he was tight lipped about his birthday wish, we have a feeling it had something to do with his happily-ever-after and the timing is just right because Rocky will be up for adoption soon!

Rocky is being fostered in the Niagara region – stay tuned on social media for when he becomes adoptable!

Petit Rocky is thrilled at his new addition!

BTRC foster Petit Rocky (Rocky for short) loves dogs – and when we say love, we mean LOVE! Playing with a fellow canine is at the top of Rocky’s favs, so when his foster mom introduced him to his new brother – BTRC foster Banksy – he was over the moon!

Rocky thinks this is the best summer he’s ever had. Being a solo pup in his foster home, he resorted to playing the bitey face game with the hose (not gonna lie, he thought it was pretty darn fun). But now that he has Banksy to reciprocate his favourite game, both boys are always ready to get their bitey on!

Banksy has been doing well too – like his brother Swayman, he needs his cherry eye fixed, a neuter and is being treated for giardia. Rocky assured Banksy that he has nothing to worry about – he too had giardia when coming into foster care and with meds, it was cleared quickly and easily! (Rocky is being treated again as well as it’s best to treat all dogs in the home just to be on the safe side).

Rocky and Banksy are being fostered in the Niagara Region of Ontario and are not yet ready to be considered for adoption.

Petit Rocky is going on Strike!

BTRC foster Petit Rocky was thrilled when he learned he was booked in at BTRC alum Wall-E’s house for a short getaway while his foster mom was away. Rocky has been working hard at being a very good boy, so a vacation is exactly what he needed. He imagined his days filled with endless food and play, with all the humans doting on him every second of the day. That’s what an all-inclusive resort is all about right?

Well, it’s understandable that Rocky was a little miffed when he realized that the humans had a schedule that didn’t include 24/7 ‘Rocky Play.’ As he watched the kids leave for school, his temporary foster mom sit down to work and Wall-E curl up for a nap, he couldn’t believe it. Was this just like any regular workday?

Rocky couldn’t help but voice his concerns. Since arriving to BTRC, Rocky has banked hours of vacation time, with the expectation that undivided attention was part of his holiday itinerary. As there seemed to be a breach of contract, Rocky requested a closed-door meeting with Wall-E to discuss the issues at hand. It took some convincing, but Wall-E eventually agreed with Rocky’s terms. In future, if a canine friend comes for a visit, all humans must make themselves available for play at any time. In solidarity, both boys perched themselves on a chair and stared at mom until she relented and took a break from work to meet their demands.

Rocky is Happy!

Today, March 20, is the International Day of Happiness, celebrated all over the world.

Happiness can be measured in different ways. For some dogs, who are spoiled and cherished family members, there is happiness in every belly rub and in the squeak of each new toy. Happiness is every snack their pleading eyes convince us to share, every nap in the sunshine, and, of course, in the hope of someday catching that squirrel.

For others, happiness is finally knowing that they are safe and loved. Warm blankets, a regular meal, a caring hand, a comforting word – these are things many foster dogs have never experienced, so this feeling of contentment is sheer bliss.

We want to thank YOU, our supporters, for making it possible to bring such joy to our rescue dogs. You have helped change lives for many who never knew happiness the way they do now. ❤

Take a moment to smile like Petit Rocky and celebrate the essence of this day!

Bonjour Petit Rocky!

Petit Rocky is our newest shelter intake. Shelter staff were told he was being surrendered because of medical and behavioural issues. As usual with a ‘pound puppy,’ we don’t have much information about this five-year-old boy, but he has been friendly to all humans and canines he has met so far.

Petit Rocky has already had his first vet visit and is now being treated for itchy skin and an ear infection. One of his ear flaps is deformed and flopped over, often a sign that a dog has suffered chronic ongoing ear infections. Ear infections are painful, so the fact that Petit Rocky was praised for being “such a good boy” during his examination is extra impressive! Follow-up appointments will be scheduled to determine what further care is needed.

BTRC alum Wall-E happened to be at the vet at the same time, so in addition to getting some medication to help him feel better, Petit Rocky also made a new friend!

Petit Rocky has spent his first few days finding sunny spots in his foster home, playing ball and snoozing. He is also getting acquainted with his foster brother, BTRC foster (and adoptable) Rebel. Petit Rocky is grateful to have Rebel by his side to teach him what it truly means to be part of the BTRC family.

Petit Rocky is being fostered in the Niagara Region of Ontario and is not yet ready for adoption.
