Gigi sat proudly for the camera, knowing that this picture would tell the world the best news – she found what she’s been waiting for – she’s found her forever home!

As soon as Gigi was acquainted with her new digs, she was intrigued. Treat puzzles, toys, chewies and a fancy sofa bed all for her? She got right down to business and started exploring…and the verdict? Home = pretty sweet!

Her mom says, “We are so excited to have Gigi in our family. She is fun loving and affectionate. She really loves her big backyard, her new beds and all the toys. Her foster mom did an excellent job fostering her, so the transition was smooth…Thanks so much for picking me. Gigi is in good hands.”

Thank YOU to Gigi’s family for picking HER. She’s one very special girl. ❤

ADOPT ME! Gigi!

Gigi is an adorable, energetic pup with a big heart and a love for cuddles. At just shy of 8 months of age, she still has plenty of puppy playfulness. Her favourite activities include long walks, chasing leaves, fetching balls, chewing on sticks, and, of course, zoomies! Gigi is a bundle of excitement, sometimes letting out little yelps of joy when she’s particularly enthusiastic!

Gigi can be a brave little protector, always on guard against the ‘threat’ of garden hoses or lawnmowers. Thankfully, she’s not destructive and knows exactly which toys are hers. However, she does have one not-so-secret vice: socks! Leave a pair within her reach, and she’ll eagerly snatch them up, sneaking away to enjoy her prize. She’s gentle with her treasures so no holes, just a bit of slobber and dampness as evidence of her fun!

After a fun-filled play session, Gigi loves nothing more than snuggling up with her person, soaking in belly rubs, and giving plenty of kisses. She’s a loyal companion who likes to follow her foster mom around, making sure she involved in all the action. Once sure she’s not missing out on anything, Gigi will happily go back to playing nearby.

Gigi is making great strides with socialization and has become less fearful of new people. She still needs to be allowed time to sniff and decide, at her own pace, if they’re cuddle or playtime-worthy (which, with a little patience, they usually are). While it’s wonderful to see young dogs grow up with children, Gigi would do best in an adult-only home, as kids can move quickly and unpredictably, which may overwhelm this sensitive girl.

Gigi’s reactivity to other pets on walks is still a work in progress, and we can’t know for sure how she would do living full-time with another animal. She has no experience with cats. However, after a serious of carefully managed interactions with her foster family’s new Boston Terrier puppy, Gigi is now enjoying playtime with her new companion! We suspect that, with time, patience, and a firm commitment to gradual integration, Gigi could successfully adjust to life with an understanding and mellow dog. An adopter who understands the importance of slow introductions would be ideal to help her reach this goal. Of course, she would be happy to be your one-and-only too!

One of Gigi’s strengths is her treat motivation, which makes training a breeze. She’s already mastered commands like “sit,” “wait,” and “leave it,” and she definitely knows what “Do you want to go for a walk?” means! She loves her outdoor adventures, though she can be startled by loud noises or the wind. She’s a bit of a puller on the leash, but with continued training, she’ll improve in no time.

When it’s time to rest, Gigi happily goes into her crate in the bedroom for the night and sleeps through, as long as she’s near you and has a blanket to block out distractions. Gigi also feels more secure if crated when you leave the home. She’s fully house-trained but if left alone for too long, Gigi may howl or whine, so she’d do best with someone who works from home or has a flexible schedule. While she can be trusted in certain areas of the house she may try to escape gated rooms (she’s a bit of a Houdini.

Fully up-to-date with all vetting and microchipped, Gigi has so much potential and is eager to learn. Gigi is looking for a forever family that will give her the love, attention, and continued training she needs to become the very best companion. Could that be you? If yes please fill out the application form HERE.

Fosters Freddie and Gigi couldn’t help but snag some screen time to share a few messages. Both are in recovery mode after their surgeries. They entered BTRC’s care as young intact pups, so it was necessary to get them spayed and neutered.

Though both bounced back quickly after their procedures, with healthy appetites and energy levels, they were not aligned with their thoughts on their recovery suits. Freddie was far from impressed with his navy onesie, while Gigi felt absolutely princess-perfect in her pink pjs.

We feel that both dogs look pretty adorable, don’t you agree?

Freddie and Gigi are both being fostered in Ontario and are not yet ready for adoption.

Little Gigi is making big strides!

BTRC foster Gigi is already coming out of her shell. Her confidence builds each day as she has been given opportunities to meet new people and experience new things. Once terrified of strangers, Gigi now looks to her foster mom for reassurance when meeting someone and has even been receptive to some pets and belly rubs!

Gigi just learned the game of fetch and, unlike many Bostons, actually brings the ball back (it seems that no one told her that keep-away is a signature BT move). The other day, she also noticed she has a built-in toy that is always read to play chase – her tail! As you can see, she is quite enamoured with her new find, as she should be as not many Bostons have the luxury of a long tail!

Training is also going well. Gigi has learned the command “sit” in English and when she arrives home from a walk, she waits patiently for her foster mom to wipe her paws. Once hesitant to go in her crate, she now gladly settles in for the evening.

Congrats, Gigi, on a job well done!

Hello Gigi!

Gigi was initially brought to the vet to be euthanized because she was anxious and afraid, but the vet refused to put down a young and healthy six-month-old pup. Thankfully, she was surrendered to a shelter instead and from there, found her way to BTRC, where she’ll get the chance to overcome her fears and find a loving home.

Gigi was understandably nervous when she arrived in her foster home but has quickly warmed up to her foster mom and is a top-notch snuggler. Building her trust is essential so she can gain confidence in new situations. Her foster mom has already been working with her. First on the agenda, leash walking. Curriculum states that it’s not polite to bark and pull towards dogs who pass by.

Gigi will need to be spayed, but while she waits, she plans to fill her days with play time, snack time, snooze time, some training (which means extra snack time!) and of course, looking cute. ❤

Gigi is being fostered in Durham Region, ON and is not yet ready to be considered for adoption.
