This adorable three-year-old girl is the best of both worlds – playful, active, and fun, with a sensitive, quiet, and cuddly side.
Coco thrives on human affection and wants to be near her people as much as possible. She may be a little shy at first, but once she feels safe, she quickly becomes an easygoing and affectionate companion who just wants to be your BFF. Curled up beside you, tucked between your legs, or directly in your face, giving endless kisses, Coco makes it very clear that being your sidekick is the job she was born to have.
This fancy gal considers herself quite the foodie. She gets especially excited for fruits and veggies and never says no to the occasional cheese treat on her lick mat. She’s such a good girl that she even shares her lick mat with her foster brother, BTRC alum Pretzel. Chewies are a close second and keep her happily occupied.
Coco was not potty trained when she came into care, and her foster family has worked diligently with her – and are incredibly proud of how far she’s come (and so are we!). She’s about 80% housetrained, with only the occasional accident. When left alone, she does very well confined to the living room with no accidents. Free roam gives her a few too many opportunities to find her own “pee spot,” so a gated space is recommended, especially if it includes a canine companion.
She has also come up with her own very clever way of letting her foster parents know she needs outside. Because her foster caregivers are deaf, Coco learned to get right in their faces and gently but persistently lick them until they get the message. Smart girl. Her future family must be committed to continuing the consistency and patience her potty training requires.
Playtime with her foster brother is always full of great energy. They love tug, and both are highly skilled in the classic BT sport of Bitey Face. Coco is polite but confident with other dogs and communicates well when she needs her space. She would do best in a home with a friendly pup who understands dog social cues and can keep up with her youthful energy.
Coco is fostered with cats, and while everyone is managing, we feel she would be happiest in a feline-free home (her foster cat siblings would agree).
Coco is still building confidence with car rides and nail trims. While they aren’t her favourite things, she tolerates them and continues to make progress. She’s also learning that older, respectful, dog-savvy children are much easier to trust than tiny loud humans, so we feel kids 10+ would be the best fit.
Coco’s ideal home is calm and patient. She is known to bark on occasion, so she isn’t always the silent type. Because she’s still working on her housebreaking and does not enjoy the crate, she needs someone home often to help her stay successful. She has also made one thing very clear: sleeping in the human bed is absolutely non-negotiable. ❤️
If you’re looking for a loyal, snuggly new family member and have what it takes to continue her training, Coco might just be your girl!

She had her spay surgery and her dental, and she handled both like a champ. Her foster brother, BTRC alum Pretzel, also had a procedure on the very same day, which means their foster parents had their hands full with double post-op doggy duty!
Neither pup was thrilled with their post‑surgery outfits – Coco with her body suit and Pretzel with his cone. Though both know they are cute regardless of what they wear, they would have appreciated being consulted before wardrobe decisions were made.
Coco has yet another thing to add to her grievance list. The ‘Chewy Ban.’ Apparently, she’s not allowed to have any chewies until she’s fully healed from dental surgery. And while Pretzel was trying to be a good brother and not rub it in her face, she knew that he was chomping away…she could feel it. So, she longingly glanced in his direction, pondering the injustices she was facing post-surgery.
Coco also hit a four‑day streak of zero potty accidents! On day five, she felt the urge to go, but her mom looked to be in the middle of a very serious human conversation. Rather than interrupting, Coco politely did her business inside, so the home renovation talk could continue. Though she broke her streak, we are awarding points for good manners.
Coco is being fostered in Niagara Falls, ON and is not yet ready for adoption.

Three-year-old Coco recently came into care after her family faced life changes that made it difficult to give her the level of care she needed. They wanted her to have an opportunity to flourish, and we’re happy to help her do just that.
Coco has been nothing but sweet, gentle, and playful since arriving in care. She’s getting along wonderfully with the resident Boston Terrier and has shown she can hold her own in an intense game of bitey face!
A spay and dental are in Coco’s near future, and while she charmed everyone at her first vet appointment, she plans to make an even bigger impression during her all-day stay.
