BTRC foster Ava recently had a dental, and we’re happy to share that she handled it like a champ! On the ride home, she was bright and alert, sitting up, looking out the car window. By the very next day, she was back to herself like nothing happened – atta girl, Ava!
Ava’s a sensitive pup. Loud, sudden noises – people whizzing by on bikes, trampolines bouncing next door, garage doors slamming – make her world seem really unpredictable. Even hearing unexpected sounds from inside the house can throw her routine off.
Here’s the thing – Ava feels things deeply. She’s aware, observant and very in tune with her environment. And while her sensitive nature is the very reason people fall in love with her, it’s also causing her some stress. So, she recently started anxiety medication to help take the edge off. It’s still early days, but we’re hoping this will help Ava feel more relaxed when things catch her by surprise.
When she’s in the right setting, Ava is a happy and curious girl. She recently visited a farm near her foster home, and while she was surrounded by quiet, open space and calm animal friends, she trotted around with the cutest hop in her step. Ava explored eagerly and greeted all the animals politely.
Ava was surrendered because life with another dog in her previous home wasn’t harmonious. But what we’re seeing now is that she does well with canine friends who have the right energy – chill and respectful. She’s had some walk-dates with a Border Collie named Bailey, and she wasn’t fazed at all by her encounter with a Portuguese Water Dog named Indy. The key? Both were easy-going and well-mannered (though Indy REALLY did want to play, but took the hint when Ava ignored him).
Before Ava is ready for adoption, we want to give her medication time to fully take effect and make sure she’s feeling her very best. ❤️

Ava, a three-year-old Boston Terrier-Pug mix, just came into BTRC’s care. Being part of a multi-dog home was stressful for Ava, and when she started to react to the other dogs, her owners thought it was best for the dogs’ safety that she be rehomed. Ultimately, they knew Ava would thrive best in a calm and dog-free environment.
A bit shy at first, Ava is now becoming more comfortable in her foster home. Her playful side is shining, and she’s been busy switching back and forth between her foster parents, trying to decide who has the superior tug‑of‑war skills (so far, it’s a tie).
When she’s not playing, Ava loves burrowing under the covers and snoozing in the human bed…and her foster parents are loving every minute of it. ❤️
We’re still getting to know her, but one thing is already clear – Ava’s an absolute sweetheart, and ridiculously adorable!
