One year old Prince has been busy since arriving in foster care. To look at him, you wouldn’t think he’s in recovery mode, yet he’s already been neutered and had stenotic nares surgery (a procedure to open his narrowed nostrils).
During surgery, the vet found that Prince’s nostrils were quite restricted, so we’re hopeful this procedure will make breathing much easier for him moving forward. The good news is that his foster family already notices a difference!
As with any surgery, Prince has a little healing ahead of him. He’ll be sporting the dreaded cone, taking antibiotics to prevent infection and he’ll head back to the clinic in about two weeks for a recheck and repeat bloodwork. The vet noted his bloodwork could indicate anemia, so they want to run another panel just to be sure.
Prince is playful, gentle and loves to be included in whatever his foster family is doing. He’s started testing out the soft dog bed (he used to prefer the hard floor) and he’s mastered going up the stairs. Coming back down? That’s going to require a bit of courage…and a lot of treats!
He’s incredibly food motivated, so his foster family has been working on slowing down his eating and teaching him that everyone gets their OWN food bowl and treats. Progress is being made, but let’s just say Prince approaches every bowl like it’s calling his name and ever meal like it’s the best one he’s ever had!
One of his foster family’s favourite things about him is how snuggly he is – he will happily wander over to anyone who offers a head rub and if you hold him close, he’ll often fall asleep right in your arms. ❤️
