I'm not quite ready to go to my new home.

Mya

I'm in the Recovery Room - I'll Be Available Soon

Welcome to our first intake of 2025 – Mya!

BTRC was alerted to a 14-year-old dog who was recently surrendered to a shelter. Blind and terrified, we knew we needed to get Mya out of the shelter and into a foster home.

Upon arrival, Mya eagerly sniffed her way around the house and settled in a nice fluffy bed. Later that evening, she had a deep sleep in the human bed nestled between her foster parents – she knew she was safe. ♥

Mya has already seen a vet and while we are waiting on her blood, urine and fecal test results, her exam confirmed she has mature cataracts and significant dental disease. A fine needle aspiration was performed on a mass on her chest to determine if it’s a mast cell tumour and we are also waiting on the pathologist’s report. The good news is that her lungs and heart are strong.  Once we have all the necessary information, we can move forward to ensure Mya receives the care and support she needs.

So far, Mya has been the perfect houseguest. She gets along beautifully with her BT foster sister, takes her eye drops with no issue and is the queen of the signature BT bum wiggle when her humans come home. Her foster mom says, “She’s the most gentle, loving and easy dog I have ever cared for. The way she navigates the house, you’d never know she’s blind. She’s just amazing.”

We look forward to getting to know more about this sweet senior and will update you soon.

Mya is being fostered in the Halton Region of Ontario and is not yet ready for adoption.
