Yoshi’s applications are now closed and under review.

Yoshi – our foxy look-alike is ready for adoption!

This three-year-old Boston Terrier-Chihuahua mix is a small but mighty 10.5 pounds. Yoshi is full of personality and fun. His BT foster sister, Rosie, has helped build his confidence and shown him how to enjoy life. Tug of war is one of his favourite games, but nothing beats a zoomy chase around the recliner – he’s quick and fun to watch as he dekes and ducks out of the way like a little ninja.

He’s taken his role of human shadow very seriously and prides himself on being a home surveillance system. Whether it’s gazing at you from a distance while you work, watching you cook in hopes that you might drop something, or alerting you to someone at the door, Yoshi has you covered. And while he takes time to warm up to new people, once he feels safe, he’ll be your most loyal sidekick.

This boy is very smart and is a pro at crate etiquette. He’s caught on to cues that mean the humans are getting ready to leave the house, and he eagerly heads to his crate, which is furnished with a comfy bed and blanket. At night, he switches between his doggy bed on the floor and the human bed and loves to be under the blankets.

Yoshi’s foster mom describes him as a sensitive soul. After vet visits – whether for vaccines or surgery – he needs quiet time, cuddles, and reassurance. With gentle support, he quickly bounces back to his playful, snuggly self.

This athletic guy has springs for legs – his foster mom jokes that it’s surprising he hasn’t asked for a trampoline! At mealtime, he gets impressive air trying to see what’s on the counter.

Yoshi can be vocal at times, especially when strangers arrive or he sees something new. His foster mom either ignores or redirects the behaviour, and he eventually settles. When home alone, however, he’s very quiet – so it seems his barking is more about keeping his humans informed of what’s happening around the home or neighbourhood. Walks remain a work in progress, and his future family will need to continue his training.

In his previous home, Yoshi lived with a cat and a child and was very respectful of both. However, because he can be startled by unpredictability and quick movements, Yoshi would do best in an adult-only home or one with older, dog-savvy children who understand how to respect his boundaries. (The same goes for a kitty companion!).

His foster mom says, “Yoshi is truly a lovely little boy who will make someone an adorable companion in a small package. They do say that good things come in small packages, right?” ❤️

Fun fact: The name “Yoshi” means happiness, good fortune, and good luck – and we think that’s exactly what he’ll bring to the lucky family who adopts him.

Yoshi wants to show you his pearly whites – what’s left of them, anyway!

This adorable boy was a little worried. He thought that with 16 teeth removed, he would have a very gummy grin. He’s quite pleased with his reflection, however, and thinks his smile is as cute as ever (we agree too!).

When he got home from the vet, he was surprised to find a blue recovery suit waiting for him. Confused, he inquired about why he needed to look like a dog-shaped sausage when the surgery was inside his mouth. That’s when his foster mom broke the news – he was also neutered at his appointment too. Some things are better left unsaid until the moment is right.

And, while Yoshi might be a little lighter in the mouth…and elsewhere…he’s a heavyweight when it comes to charm, a healthy appetite and the desire to be snuggled!

Yoshi is being fostered in the Greater Toronto Area and is not ready for adoption.

Let’s give a big welcome to little Yoshi!

This adorable three-year-old Boston-Chihuahua mix came to rescue because his family’s life circumstances changed, and he was becoming increasingly anxious. His family felt he needed a calmer environment, so BTRC stepped in to help.

From the way his tail wags, it’s obvious that Yoshi is very happy in his foster home. His BT foster sister is a great companion because she’s playful but also relishes her downtime, so Yoshi’s learning the best of both worlds. When it’s time to relax, you’ll find him burrowed under the covers and squished against his human (the closer the better!).

Yoshi has a vet appointment soon and will need to be neutered, so his schedule is filling up! In the meantime, he plans to work on securing a part-time job as mom’s assistant. He’s taken to sitting on her lap while she’s at her desk and he feels like he’s catching on to some pretty advanced computer skills.

Yoshi is being fostered in the Greater Toronto Area and is not yet ready for adoption.
