Our little “wild one” just celebrated her first birthday, and she had her very own photoshoot. And while hitting a milestone year is definitely a reason to paw-ty, Shanny has many more reasons to be proud!
This spirited girl has been working hard on her commands and learning that not every dog wants to be friends right away. When she sees a fellow pup, she often has big feelings, and we’re still figuring out her doggy preferences – some pups are playmates, others, not so much.
House training is going well, and Shanny is having fewer accidents in the house. She rings a bell (most of the time) when nature calls, though the peeing on walks is still a no-go.
As if she couldn’t get any more adorable, she recently had six teeth removed and now has a ridiculously cute bunny grin with two tiny front teeth.
We all know that puppies are a work in progress, and Shanny’s no exception – but we are so proud of how far she’s come since coming into care and so appreciative of the love, patience and commitment she receives from her foster family each and every day.

Way to go, Shanny!
When we met Shanny, we knew she was sweet, sassy and spunky….but boy is this gal SMART! She’s been working hard on her training, and she’s been knocking it out of the park!
Under the guidance of her foster mom and foster brother (a chocolate lab named Muddy), Shanny has added the following to her repertoire:
She’s also rocking the ‘look at me’ command and is doing it without even being asked! Her foster mom has also been doing urban agility training, and Shanny understands ‘on’ (stepping onto things) and ‘off’ (safely getting down). Walks have also improved significantly, and now, when Shanny reaches a crosswalk, she’s starting to sit and wait.
This adorable girl is not just a quick learner; she’s also eager to please, which makes her an awesome student. When she arrived in care, Shanny’s manners were…to put it bluntly, non-existent. Her foster mom has worked diligently with her, and when she is ready for adoption, her forever family will need to as well.
On another note – Shanny’s eyes have healed beautifully and if you look closely, her drool bubble is the cherry on top (or shall we say, ‘on lip.’

This brave girl had two surgeries – she was spayed and had her cherry eyes repaired. And when she got home, she was pretty out of it, so her mom tucked her into a cozy bed for a long and sound sleep.
Shanny has quickly learned that post-surgery care is the best care – more snuggles, more treats and more kisses. She even has her own healing crew – her canine foster siblings, Prim and Muddy, who have loyally been offering moral support (and hoping for some of those extra treats).
One thing Shanny has not figured out is the cone of shame. She mostly stands there like a confused little satellite dish staring at the floor, waiting for a signal to explain why she’s dressed like this.
Let’s send this adorable girl some healing vibes – and maybe some cone-wearing fashion tips!

BTRC was contacted by a shelter about an eight-month-old Boston Terrier who was surrendered because her owners did not have the time to dedicate to her training and need for stimulation (anyone who has ever met a Boston puppy knows they require lots of play time). So, Shanny made the trip from Québec to her foster home in Ontario.
Looking at this picture, it’s clear that she’s much happier after her shelter break. Her foster mom has been working on Shanny’s manners and teaching her that not every dog wants to play all the time. And while she gets an A+ on crate training, housebreaking still needs some work. With her foster mom’s patience and experience, and some good doggy role models in the home, we’re confident Shanny will be a fast learner.
Spay surgery and cherry eye repair are in the near future, so this adorable girl will have a very full schedule soon. In the meantime, she plans to convince her foster sister, Prim, that she is indeed BFF potential and not just a pesky younger sibling.
