Minnie

Minnie

She came to rescue as a stray – tiny and quiet, but with a heart so full and a spirit so bright, she deserved a name to match. Minnie. ❤️

When we met Minnie, it was clear that she had been neglected and was in desperate need of medical care. Despite what she had gone through, her gentle and trusting nature shone through. She let herself be held, hugged, kissed and cradled, and she curiously explored her new surroundings.

From the moment Minnie stepped into her foster home, she was showered with affection and adoration from her two chihuahua foster siblings, Mademoiselle and Monsieur. And while Minnie was blind and deaf, which made her sometimes oblivious to how enamoured they were with her, they still followed her around dutifully and fondly. It was clear that for the whole family, it was love at first sight, and her foster mom made a promise to protect and care for her fiercely every day they had together. She enjoyed time by the fireplace, hunting for treats, sniffing the garden, and most of all, curling up in her mom’s lap in a rocking chair.

We were hopeful that Minnie’s prognosis would be manageable and that her ailments could be overcome. We thought we had more time. But Minnie’s body had already been through so much, and it was letting go, regardless of how much we wanted to hold on to her. She had the comfort of passing in her foster mom’s arms, crossing the bridge peacefully, and knowing that she was cherished.

Minnie, we will carry your memory with us forever. You were loved, you were seen, and you mattered…and you will always be missed. ❤️

Meet Minnie. Found as a stray, we don’t know her story or her age. One thing we do know is that she’s now safe in a loving foster home.

BTRC was contacted by a shelter about a blind and deaf senior who was in bad shape and needed to be seen by a vet immediately. Two masses were found – one inside her mouth and the other on her chest. A urine test showed that her protein levels were high, which could indicate kidney issues.

Minnie also has a stubborn ulcer and is scheduled for a debridement to encourage healing. The cone and halo she alternates between do not faze her, and she continues to sniff and explore her new surroundings with enthusiasm.

Since coming into care, Minnie’s abdomen is no longer distended, she’s gained weight, and her skin looks better. Pain meds have also improved her mobility, which is great because Minnie keeps busy with the many enrichment activities her foster mom provides.

While she waits for her upcoming vet appointments, Minnie is content to snooze in front of the fireplace, snuggle on her foster mom’s lap, and search for the treats hidden around the home. She readily accepts massages and has decided that a rocking chair is the best kind of chair.

Minnie is being fostered in Georgina, ON, and is not ready for adoption.
