I'm ready for my new family!

Melody

I'm Available

Miss Melody can’t wait to find her match!

After a pit stop in foster care, adorable Melody is revved up and ready to cross the finish line into her forever home. This sweet girl has proven she is easily adaptable, skilled at winning hearts, and a wonderful companion.

Melody came to BTRC because her previous owner could no longer care for her. While it was a long drive to her foster home, she enjoyed the car ride, taking in the sights and relishing in the company of her transport team. Once she arrived at her new digs, she was excited to see two young human siblings and greeted them enthusiastically. They marked this monumental moment with a game of fetch in the backyard.

While ball throwing is her favourite hobby, she also enjoys tug-of-war and ‘catch me’ with her foster sisters. Melody is full of beans and her “off” switch might get stuck – she’ll keep going until the last toy is put away. Her foster mom has been helping her learn “quiet time,” and Melody now settles in her crate during the workday.  (Any sudden movement does get Melody’s hopes up, and her puppy dog eyes will tug on heartstrings, though!)

Melody prefers recess over homework – but her foster family has had success teaching her ‘sit, down, touch, stay, paw’ and ‘stand up’. Oh, and she’s bilingual too—commands in French or English work just fine for this clever girl. With patience, repetition, and treats, she has great potential to add new tricks to her repertoire. When she’s caught up in the fun, potty breaks can slip her mind – so she needs regular outdoor reminders every 4-5 hours.

At night, she sleeps soundly in her crate and is accident-free. When she is left alone, Melody is not crated and is not destructive or vocal; however, she is used to a family that is home often and hopes her new family will be too.

On walks, Melody can pull with purpose – her curiosity (and squirrel obsession) know no bounds. She’s friendly with humans and other dogs, giving everyone a greeting and a sniff. She prefers shorter walks, about 15 minutes, followed by ball throwing in the backyard, even when it rains (apparently, Melody does not suffer from Melting Boston Syndrome!).

Melody’s more of a “you do you, I’ll do me” kind of gal with other dogs. Though friendly to dogs she meets outside she hasn’t lived with another pet and seemed unsure during an in- home meet-and-greet with another Boston. She doesn’t seem to have much experience in how to “dog”. A solo pup lifestyle would likely suit her best, though a calm, respectful dog might be okay. She would probably disappoint a canine looking for a playmate. (Cats? Probably not – her desire to run after squirrels may translate to cat chasing in the home.)

Melody can be a bit possessive – she’s growled over bully sticks and being moved from cozy spots – but with training and positive reinforcement, she’s making great progress. Her current home includes dog-savvy kids who respect boundaries, and her future family should, too.

A couch potato she is not! She’s a go-getter with a zest for life, and will thrive with an active family who embraces her playful spirit and keeps her clever mind engaged. Oh, and given her unbridled passion for fetch, a backyard is a bonus (though not a deal breaker!).

Always smiling and relishing the time with her loved ones, Melody wants you to apply HERE if you think you’re her match. ❤️

Adorable. Playful. Energetic. Fun. All day, every day – this is life with Melody!

Melody is quite lucky. She lives with two spunky and giggly human foster sisters who are always up for a good time. They’ve all been busy rehearsing for Karaoke Night, and while Melody’s adamant that she’s ready for the big stage, her sisters insist that she still needs some work. Nevertheless, Melody never misses a chance to steal the mic – and maybe even a ball or two.

Friendly to all, Melody has quite the fan base, and she doesn’t understand why squirrels run away from her when she just wants to be friends. She’s pretty jealous that they can climb trees – she’s tried and it’s much harder than they make it look! Thankfully, her leopard gecko sibling, Yoshi, is a little more chill and lets her have a sniff or two from time to time.

With the help of a trainer, Melody’s working on her resource guarding – because being fabulous doesn’t mean you don’t need a little guidance. Her foster mom has also been teaching her new commands, and while she doesn’t love “school,” she does love the praise that comes with it. ❤️

Melody is being fostered in Etobicoke, ON. Stay tuned for her adoption debut…we have a feeling it’s going to be a chart-topper!

Bonjour, Melody!

This adorable three-year-old was surrendered because her owner moved to a retirement community and could not take Melody along. Though saying goodbye was incredibly hard, her owner knew BTRC would ensure Melody found a home filled with the love she deserves.

Busier than the Energizer Bunny, Melody keeps her foster family on their toes. If she could have it her way, she would play ball during all hours (and forfeit all sleep!). She was disappointed when her foster mom had to work on Monday, so she spent the morning staring at her with a sad face (they don’t call them puppy dog eyes for nothing!).

Skilled at commands in French, Melody’s transition to a bilingual home was smooth. Her two young human foster sisters have taken to her playfulness and energy, and they’re looking forward to the outdoor activities the warm weather brings. Her foster parents want to teach her to play frisbee and are convinced she’ll be an enthusiastic student!

We look forward to seeing how well she does with this new sport and will be sure to post an update soon!

Melody is being fostered in the Greater Toronto Area and is not yet ready for adoption.
