I'm not quite ready to go to my new home.

Ginger

I'm in the Recovery Room - I'll Be Available Soon

We’ve been keeping a secret.

Well… half a dozen little secrets, actually.

Back in January, Ginger’s foster noticed Ginger was gaining weight. Now, we don’t body shame – ever – but when Ginger started reaching for figure-disguising sparkly tutus, we suspected something was up.

A vet visit confirmed it. When Ginger came into rescue, she was carrying a few extra passengers.

And we don’t mean just her travelling companions, Dasher and Holly.

After being carefully monitored, Ginger was brought to her vet clinic on the evening of February 2nd with signs she might be in labour. We had been doing reverse progesterone testing every other day to track her progress, checking her temperature, and watching for those “puppies are coming” signs, but Ginger likes to keep life interesting!

Six puppies were safely delivered by C-section – four girls and two boys. Mom and babies are doing very well, and we are incredibly grateful to the veterinary team who helped bring them safely into the world.

If you’d like to join us in celebrating Ginger and her six tiny surprises, we’ve created a “baby shower” Amazon wish list for the new family. The cost for puppy supplies adds up quickly, and anything from the list is genuinely appreciated:

Prefer to make a tax-deductible donation instead? Mom Ginger will still need to be spayed and have a dental once the puppies are weaned. Donations toward her ongoing care can be made here:

IMPORTANT NOTE: Ginger and her puppies are currently being fostered in Calgary, Alberta, and they are NOT ready for adoption.

We know how exciting it is to hear about puppies in rescue – it almost never happens at BTRC. But as adorable as they are, we kindly ask that you do not message us asking to adopt one. We will share updates and announce publicly when they are ready for applications. We will not be responding to individual inquiries about the puppies at this time.

Welcome Ginger

This adorable Boston-Frenchie mix was found abandoned with two other pups, but thanks to a compassionate stranger, was rescued and brought to a shelter. BTRC acted fast, and Ginger is now soaking up lots of TLC in her foster home.

Ginger is an absolute sweetheart – she loves humans and dogs and always wants to be part of the action. She’s taken on the role of ‘shadow’ and is always near someone in her foster family. Her BT foster siblings, Tully and BTRC alum Rosie, don’t mind one bit. ❤️

We don’t know her age just yet, and we’ve currently booked a follow-up vet visit after her time at the shelter – we will learn more about this precious girl very soon.
