BTRC reports – Frodo has been adopted!

Frodo looks quite happy on the screen…and that’s because he is in his forever home! Frodo didn’t need to travel far for this photo though (which is a good thing because he’s still recovering from the first of two luxating patella surgeries). His foster family has adopted him, so he’s been home since the day he walked through their door.

More breaking news – Frodo’s name has been changed to Basil (rhymes with dazzle). Congratulations to Basil, mom and dad! ❤

One knee down and one more to go for Frodo!

BTRC foster Frodo has been quick to adjust to life on three legs. The day after his luxating patella surgery, Frodo successfully managed to poop and pee all on his own with the balance of a ballerina!

Frodo’s dedicated foster parents are overseeing his recovery, restricting his activity, limiting his exercise to short leash walks, and making sure he doesn’t jump or do stairs (which can be a challenge with an enthusiastic Boston Terrier patient!). Physical therapy exercises will also be part of Frodo’s rehabilitation regimen.

Described as “bright and eager,” Frodo is gaining more confidence each day and slowly learning to use his new and improved back leg. While he is used to accompanying his foster mom to work, Frodo decided to call in sick the last few days. Fortunately, for him, his foster dad was able to work right by his side while Frodo got some R&R!

Frodo will have surgery on his other knee after he’s had a chance to recover from this first one, and while he waits, he’s decided to bask in all the extra TLC for as long as he can!

Frodo is being fostered in Winnipeg, MB and is not yet ready for adoption.

Three teeth down and two knees to go!

BTRC foster Frodo is missing some teeth and he’s worried his signature smile isn’t so signature anymore. His foster mom has reassured him that his gap tooth smile is even more endearing! ❤

Frodo spent his post-surgery days snoozing with his humans and eyeballing the empty chewie bin. Why had they all suddenly disappeared? He remembers his mom saying something about two weeks without chewies, but he thought he dreamt it because it sounded so ridiculous…could it be true?!

During his appointment, Frodo also had an x-ray on both of his legs. It was determined that he has grade 4 luxating patella in both legs and will require surgery. In the meantime, while he waits for his surgery date, Frodo is content to accompany his foster mom to the office, enjoy his home cooked meals and watch his beloved nature shows.

Oh, and about those home cooked meals – Frodo’s foster dad was ecstatic to report that his poops are finally A+!

Frodo’s dental and x-ray total: $1554.15

Frodo’s luxating patella surgery estimate: $6003.89 – $6175.77

Frodo is feelin' friendly!

BTRC foster Frodo has made some big strides since arriving in his foster home. At first, he was very cautious and didn’t like to be handled. Now, he allows his foster mom to touch his paws and pick him up. Recently, when he was sleeping, his foster mom wrapped him up like a baby to move him from the couch to the bed and he woke up simply to kiss her and then quickly went back to sleep. A little trust can go a long way. ❤

Among Frodo’s favourite things are fuzzy blankets, human snuggles and nature shows.

He has become so invested in these shows that he now knows from the change in music when the animals will enter the scene.  So far, he was most riveted by a spider documentary (his foster mom did not share his sentiment!). He tries his best to enjoy fetch, but often he will attempt to catch or retrieve the ball while laying down. He doesn’t understand why fetch and naps need to be mutually exclusive.

Frodo’s foster family installed a doggy camera to check in on Frodo when he’s left alone. They have quite the collection of cute still shots of a curious Frodo wondering why the “thing” on the wall sounds like mom and dad.  Lucky for Frodo, he isn’t alone often – he is lucky enough to accompany his foster mom to work. He has made many fans with his charm and he enjoys his new position in the Receiving Department – receiving pets and treats that is!

Frodo has a dental coming up and his luxating patella will be x-rayed at the same time. Stay tuned for this handsome boy’s next update!

Welcome Birthday Boy Frodo!

A family with active children isn’t the best environment for all dogs. This seems to be the case for Frodo. With two young children, his family trusted that BTRC could find a home better suited to his needs.

So far, Frodo has been a polite houseguest – eyeballing the humans while they eat but not begging, taking treats gently and calmly seeking attention. He is affectionate and likes to snuggle. Though he needs some work on his leash manners, he is a pro at elevator etiquette!

Frodo will turn four tomorrow, and a birthday seems an appropriate way to celebrate his new beginning. Happy Birthday, and welcome to your future Frodo! ❤
