Adoptable Freddie: The Angelic-Looking Little Gremlin

Don’t let that adorable, innocent face fool you – beneath those big, soulful Boston Terrier eyes lies a mischievous little gremlin with a PhD in keeping you on your toes. Freddie is a 1.5-year-old, 19-pound, neutered male Boston Terrier who is equal parts charming and challenging. He’s got the looks of an angel but the energy of a caffeinated squirrel, and he’s on a lifelong quest to test the limits of human patience (in the most lovable way possible, of course).

The Good:

✔ Leash Manners – Freddie walks well on a leash, rarely pulls, and is learning to heel.
✔ People-Friendly (on his terms) – Loves people, but he needs a slow and steady introduction. Think ‘first date” energy, not ‘overly enthusiastic bestie.’
✔ Crate Trained – His crate is his chill zone, and regular crating will help keep his inner gremlin at bay.
✔ Dog-Selective – He does have dog friends. But he’s picky, so he’ll be conducting interviews.
✔ Eager to Learn – While his energy and enthusiasm make it difficult for Freddie to calm down and concentrate, he’s a bright boy and learns best one-on-one in a calm, home environment. Mental work keeps him from getting into mischief.
✔ Vet Visits are Tolerated (with conditions) – He needs calming meds and a hands-off approach, but he’s getting better every time.

The... Less Good (but manageable in the right environment)

⚠ No Kids – Freddie + children = too much excitement, which could lead to nipping.
⚠ No Cats – He will absolutely chase them.
⚠ No Spoiling – Yes, he’s cute, but too much excitement and fuss can overstimulate him and bring back some of his more ‘spirited’ behaviours.
⚠ Dog Friends are Case-By-Case – Multi-dog homes aren’t ideal, but he can tolerate the right housemate if introductions are done properly (aka slowly!).
⚠ Excitable in High-Stimulation Situations – This can lead to jumping and nipping, but when his environment is managed well, he can be a perfectly well-behaved little demon... we mean, dog.
⚠ Tooth Bumps – When overwhelmed, Freddie may deliver what we call a “tooth bump” – a closed-mouth warning that means, “Hey, I need some space”. You’ll need to learn to read his cues and not overwhelm him.

Freddie has made HUGE strides in managing his anxiety. He’s currently in a structured training program and is doing fantastic!

He does, however, require continued behavioural management. His adopters will need to commit to learning how to support him and set him up for success. Because of this, his adoption process includes a mandatory in-person session with his trainer. Freddie is presently in the Peterborough area of Ontario.

To recap, Freddie is:

✔ Undeniably cute as a button.

✔ Healthy, fully vetted, and microchipped.
✔ On anxiety management medication.
✔ A quirky, intelligent, and lovable ‘project’ pup who will thrive with structure and the right person.

If you’re up for the challenge of this charming little gremlin, and you have the patience, experience, and commitment to help him continue his progress, Freddie might just be your perfect match. Apply HERE if you’re ready for a life filled with laughter, training, and just a little bit of mischief!

Dear Santy Paws,

It’s me Freddie! Santy, I’m a big boy now – I’m one years old. Remember last year when you visited me? I was only three months and just a little puppy. You’re gonna be super duper surprised at how much I’ve grown.

I’m still learning how to ‘dog.’ I’m at a special sleepover school right now where I’m learning all the important dog skills with something called pawsitive reinforcement training. It’s so fun because I get to try cool new things and earn rewards for doing them!

I also get plenty of time to explore the great outdoors – sniffing all the amazing smells is my favourite part! I’ve been working hard and my teachers say I’m an awesome student. Pretty soon, I’ll be ready to graduate and find my forever family. It might even be with you!

There are sooooo many things I want for Christmas, Santy. I want lots of toys…and when I say lots, I mean LOTS! I’m not picky though. Big, small, fluff, no fluff, crinkles, squeakers, chewies, tuggies – I love ’em all!

Thanks, Santy. Can’t wait for Christmas!

Love,
FreddieP.S. I’ve worked so hard to be on your nice list, so I just wanna clarify – if I stay awake to sneak a peek at you, will that get me on the naughty list?

Freddie’s at a positive reinforcement board and train facility which is helping him be the best boy he can be and prepare him for adoption. Though these facilities are costly, BTRC is committed to providing dogs with the care and training they require based on their specific needs. With your help, we can continue to provide critical services for the dogs that need them most. Fosters Freddie and Gigi couldn’t help but snag some screen time to share a few messages. Both are in recovery mode after their surgeries. They entered BTRC’s care as young intact pups, so it was necessary to get them spayed and neutered.

Though both bounced back quickly after their procedures, with healthy appetites and energy levels, they were not aligned with their thoughts on their recovery suits. Freddie was far from impressed with his navy onesie, while Gigi felt absolutely princess-perfect in her pink pjs.

We feel that both dogs look pretty adorable, don’t you agree?

Freddie and Gigi are both being fostered in Ontario and are not yet ready for adoption.

Welcome Freddie!

Freddie came to BTRC under some sad circumstances which made it impossible for his family to continue to care for him. The decision was a hard one, but Freddie’s family believed it was best to find him a new loving home and trusted BTRC to do just that.

At 10 months old, Freddie is full of energy and spunk! He enjoys the company of his BT foster brother and is having a blast exploring all the new smells in his backyard. While A+ at sleeping in his crate, he still needs to get the hang of potty training. Freddie seems eager to please, so we think he’s going to be a great student!

Freddie has some vet appointments in his future, including a neuter, so in the meantime, we will let him continue to decompress and settle into his new digs.

Freddie is being fostered in Grey County, Southwestern Ontario and is not yet ready for adoption.
