Known first as Dutch, later Ajax, this alum’s rescue story began with an adventure – travelling from the Prairies to Ontario with the help of Pilots N Paws volunteers, carried by kindness every step of the way.
He landed in a very special foster home, one dedicated to specially-abled dogs and all the wonder they bring. From the very beginning, there was just something about him. Despite everything he had been through, his condition never defined him. Ajax chose joy.
He didn’t have use of his back legs and needed support with bladder and bowel care, but that never dimmed Ajax’s spirit. With his drag bag or his wheels, he always found a way to get exactly where he wanted to go. He carried himself with a resilience that refused to be limited, and it was impossible not to fall in love with him.
The bond he formed with his foster mom was something truly special. She shared, “Dogs like him change people and leave a mark on their hearts forever.” And in Ajax’s case, that connection never faded. Even as his journey brought him back west to his forever home in BC, he remained part of her family – just as she became part of his. Updates were shared, milestones celebrated, and even a reunion visit brought them back together.
Saying goodbye was not easy, but Ajax was exactly where he was meant to be. His devoted adoptive family embraced him fully, just as he was, and fittingly named him Ajax, a reflection of his bravery and strength. They gave him the life every dog deserves – full of love, adventure, and belonging. They saw him for everything he was and loved him without hesitation. He was truly cherished by the family that welcomed him home.
Ajax will be deeply missed. Dogs with special needs somehow leave even bigger holes in our lives. Our hearts are with his family, near and far, during this incredibly difficult time.
Run free at the Bridge, Ajax – no wheels, no limits, just joy. ❤️
