Charlie Bear

Charlie Bear

Today, with aching hearts, we want to share the news of the passing of beloved BTRC alum Charlie Bear. She was a foster fail, and one who turned her parents’ world upside down in the most beautiful way.

From the moment she arrived in her home, Charlie was a whirlwind – lots of quirks, but just as many (if not more) gifts. She was very selective with dogs, yet somehow the gentlest foster sister. It was as if she knew exactly what each newcomer needed. A wonderful foster sibling to the late BTRC alum Nelson, who’s likely been saving a warm beam of sunshine for her over the Rainbow Bridge.

Her nemesis were squirrels, and she chased them like it was her job. She also had a love-hate relationship with stuffies – they were her emotional support, but they always ended up decimated.

Charlie kept her family and her vet on their toes with rare medical conditions. Her vet used to joke that if there were ever a book written on “How to be a Normal Dog,” Charlie better take notes! But Charlie knew that ‘normal’ didn’t define her because she was extraordinary – truly one of a kind. ❤️

After losing her BT sister Zoey, her parents never imagined fostering again, but emergencies arose, and their hearts couldn’t say no – and neither could Charlie. It was as though Charlie found purpose when fostering. When she opened her heart to more foster siblings, she proved just how far her love could reach – to any dog who needed a friend, a support and a guide.

Now, she’s crossed the rainbow bridge, where Zoey has been patiently waiting. Two sisters are now reunited. Two hearts, forever entwined.

Her parents’ grief is deep because their love was (and still is) immeasurable. Charlie knew that. She felt it in every moment of her life. Her parents say, “She was our lemony unicorn – our lucky #13 foster who never left…When she first came into our care, she was so reactive, but she worked hard to find her calm and trust…making us so proud of how far she came.”

You will always be remembered, Charlie Bear. Run free, sweet girl.
