Hi! I’m Cameo, a six-year-old Boston Terrier who may be small and dainty, but I’m absolutely full of life! I’m playful, silly, and always ready for fun – especially if it involves tug. My all-time favourite toys are my dragon stuffies – I have quite the collection – and I love carrying one around whenever I can.
I really love playing with other dogs. My foster sister doesn’t always want to play as much as I do, so I’d be happiest in a home with an energetic small dog who wants to wrestle and have lots of fun with me. I’ve also met my foster mom’s grand-dog – she’s a Pitbull and a lot bigger than me so I’m a little unsure of her size, but that doesn’t stop me from trying to play anyway. I lived with four cats in my previous home and while I liked them a lot, they weren’t always impressed at my constant desire to play with them.
When it’s time to relax, you’ll usually find me curled up in my donut bed or sleeping in my foster mom’s bed (I’m not a bedtime crate kind of gal). I also like to sleep with a toy in my mouth – maybe because I know how cute I look doing it. ❤️
I’m almost fully potty trained and doing really well. My foster mom rarely comes home to a mess, and only once in a while I might need a late-night or middle of the night potty break. I’ve been trying super hard at this housebreaking stuff and I’m really proud of myself. I hope to find a forever home that will be patient with me while I’m still learning. I don’t go to the door or bark to ask to go outside, but I’ll come find you during the day to let you know I need out. I do sometimes need a little encouragement to actually walk out the door, but once I’m outside, I always do my business – and I always come back in looking for my well-earned “good girl” treat.
Car rides make me a little nervous at first, but I settle in quickly. I think I’m secretly hoping every ride ends with a pup cup…and my foster mom admits that most of the time, it does! I do very well at the vet – I might shake a bit, but I don’t bark. So far, I’ve only seen female vets.
Speaking of females…
I warm up very quickly to women. It only takes a few treats and I’m completely in love! I haven’t met many new men lately, but in the past I have been vocal, so I’ll need slow, patient introductions. I don’t spend much time around kids, but I do great with my foster mom’s 12-year-old nephew and am just as comfortable with him as I am with women.
Walks aren’t really my thing, and wearing a harness or clothing causes me stress (I don’t mind a collar though). Because of this, I’m not a good match for a family looking for a dog to join them on outdoor excursions. I’m happiest getting my exercise in a fenced yard or through indoor play, where I feel safe and confident.
My foster mom has started working on crate training, and right now she puts me in the crate for short periods while she’s home. I don’t seem to mind being in a kennel once in a while for short stretches. When I’m home alone, I don’t like the crate, so I am left to hang out on the couch waiting for my humans. I’m a good girl and stay out of trouble.
I’m a great eater and love my kibble! Every morning, I take an anti-anxiety medication with my breakfast. It’s inexpensive and can be filled at a regular human pharmacy. This has really helped me feel more relaxed.
I love affection – pets, cuddles, and especially belly rubs. I often ask to be picked up by coming over and crawling up your legs (sometimes that also means I need to go potty though). When you pick me up, I need you to have empty hands – if you’re holding something else, it scares me. I do best with slow introductions, calm energy, and no sudden movements. I also don’t like yelling (who does?!). Once I feel safe, I’m incredibly loving and sweet.
I may be small, but I take my job as a guard dog very seriously – I’ll always let you know if someone is at the door by barking. I’ve been look at that door for quite some time wondering if my forever family is on the other side. My dream home would be a calm household with an energetic smaller dog sibling who wants to play with me and a human who understands that taking it slow helps me shine.

Dear Santa Paws,
It’s me, Cameo!
Did you notice I’ve moved since last Christmas? I’m in a foster home now, where I have a foster sister named Yuki. It’s so fun here because Yuki has so much energy – just like me! She’s my very best friend, and she’s super patient too. My favourite thing to do is nibble her ears. I’m still not sure she likes it, but she’s never gotten mad at me, so I assume she’s cool with it. I just can’t help myself – I find her ear-resistible!
Sadly, Yuki and I ripped my favourite dragon playing tug of war, but then my foster mom bought me a new one (she’s always doing nice stuff like that for me). I’m on my fourth dragon now, and my foster dad says I don’t need another one – what do you think, Santa? Can a girl ever have enough stuffed dragons? Mom agrees with me because she says I look so cute when I sleep with them. I think mom has the right idea – keep ‘em coming!
Will you be making a stop at my house for Christmas? I must admit I’m a little nervous meeting new people, but I really want to meet you. Yuki said if we try really hard to stay awake, we could get a peek at you! I’m working really hard at not barking or growling when new humans come into my home, so maybe I can practice on you, Santa. I know you’re patient, loving and care about me. You know I’m just scared, so you won’t put me on the naughty list for using my voice when I feel stressed. I do improve a little each day, and I’m trying so hard to trust new humans. I decided I like my human auntie! She has a dog too, and I’m hoping we can be friends. ❤️
Do you think you could bring me some confidence for Christmas, so, when I meet new people, I’m not so scared? I’ve been longing my whole life to find a place where I truly belong. Do you think it will be my turn soon, Santa? I really hope so because I think I’ve been a good girl, patiently waiting for my happily-ever-after to come. When it’s time for me to be adopted, could you help me find someone as special as my foster mom? Someone gentle and full of compassion. That would be the best gift ever – and I don’t mind waiting until after Christmas for it. I know it takes time.
Love,
Cameo
PS. Can I ask for one more thing? Can your elves make me another dragon toy? I really want one in every colour. I promise to share it with Yuki, and we’ll try not to tear it apart during tug-of-war (no promises, though).

Sweet Cameo has been hanging out in a very well-known (temporary) home while her foster family is away. And while she was shy at first, her new foster siblings wasted no time trying to get her acquainted with life with four other pups!
Among her new friends are BTRC foster Lucy and alum Frodo. Cameo was THRILLED to see that Frodo was a pro at one of her favourite games – Boston Bitey Face! Frodo was equally pleased to meet someone who approached the game with matched enthusiasm.
Both her foster family and temporary foster family have been working hard to help Cameo gain confidence on her walks. It’s still a work in progress, but their patience is paying off – Cameo has already gone on a few strolls and is increasing her distance each time.
Way to go, Cameo! We can’t wait to watch and share your journey. Remember, every little step you take is actually a huge stride in your progress. We are so proud of you! ❤️
Cameo is being fostered in Stony Plain, AB, and is not yet ready for adoption.
Cue Cameo!
This beautiful six-year-old girl has a face fit for the big screen, don’t you think?
Cameo came to BTRC because it was clear that she needed an environment that had lots of stimulation and playtime – something that her senior siblings weren’t very interested in. And Cameo has quickly made it known to everyone who meets her – a toy must always be nearby if and when she’s ready to play. ❤️
Day by day, Cameo has been learning to trust her new world. Shy and nervous, Cameo takes some time to warm up to unfamiliar people and experiences, but with her foster mom’s gentle encouragement, she has made big strides. The human bed is now Cameo’s bed, and she’s becoming more affectionate. Walks are still a work in progress, and her foster parents are helping her build more confidence.
We’re looking forward to learning more about Cameo as she settles in…and we’re sure you’re eager to learn more too.
Cameo is being fostered in Edmonton, AB, and is not yet ready for adoption.
