There’s a common image people have of a foster dog – timid, quiet and curled up loyally at your feet. Bug came to BTRC ready to rewrite the script. He wanted to make it known that foster parenting can require a lot of work…and sometimes training in combat.
When Bug joined his foster family, he had big feelings, a busy mind, and a lot to learn about the world around him. Trust didn’t come easily, and patience was something he tested daily. And while he approached life with enthusiasm and curiosity, his strong belief that his teeth belonged in most interactions was not well received. Boundaries were (and still are) a work in progress, and training wasn’t optional – it was necessary – and his foster family worked at it every waking minute of the day.
Through every challenge, Bug’s foster family stood by him. Again and again. They stayed consistent, calm and committed even on the days when progress felt slow. They didn’t rush Bug. They didn’t have an idea about what a ‘perfect’ dog should be. They gave him the time and space to flourish into a wonderful companion, and they have loved him from the moment they met him. Every day that Bug spent with them, they wanted him to know that he was special and loved. They chose this fostering path, not because it was easy, but Bug deserved it. And slowly, but fiercely, Bug chose them back.
We are overjoyed to announce that Bug is now forever home with his foster parents and feline sister, and he’s quite proud to drop the title foster – now it’s just Mom, Dad and Tonks. ❤️ Oh, and he’s decided to drop the name Bug, too. He’s now officially BTRC alum Rudy!
His dad says, “Rudy is our very special little troublemaker. A never-stopping character and a little comedian. Rudy has come a long way since we first met him. He likes going swimming, riding in the truck, and even coming cross country skiing and trying to run after deer on hikes. He hates wearing boots and sitting still as soon as the sun goes down, and he can’t take a nap in a sunspot on a chair, but he loves sleeping in warm laundry. Rudy even had his first vacation to Boston on Christmas Day to see Fenway Park! We love Rudy and are excited to start his teenager classes so he can meet some new friends, other than his sister Tonks.”
Congrats to Rudy and his family!
Meet Bug – a bouncing bundle of Boston Terrier energy!
Bug was surrendered because his owner recognized that he needed more time, structure and training than they were able to provide. With his best interest at heart, they trusted that BTRC could offer the resources Bug would need to thrive.
This adorable boy turns one next month, so like most Boston Terrier youngsters, he’s enthusiastic about…well, everything! He’s been keeping his foster parents entertained, and his feline foster sister has wasted no time showing him who’s boss.
Puzzle toys and lots of walks keep Bug stimulated, and he’s learning that crate time means quiet time. He’s still mastering some social niceties – like how fingers and toes aren’t fair game during play – but he’s a smart little guy and seems eager to please. Bug has his first official training session coming up soon, and we’re excited to see how he takes to “school.” Something tells us he’ll be thrilled at the prospect of meeting some new peeps.
Bug is being fostered in Montréal, QC, and is not yet ready for adoption.
