In November of 2011, Olive, along with her litter of pups, embarked on a new journey from a northern community to the care of BTRC. With no records to tell her story, we only know that Olive was a young mother, likely not much older than a year herself. While we never had the chance to meet the pups’ father, it’s clear he was a Labrador! Some of Olive’s pups were blessed with long lab tails, while others inherited the distinctive Boston Terrier nub.
Welcomed into her foster family as a “forever” member in January of 2012, Olive quickly became an integral part of their lives.
Olive was a calming presence, offering patience and understanding to many dogs throughout her life. To some, she was the first companion they ever truly embraced. Her playful side made her a fun friend, while her gentle nature and warm heart made her a cherished confidante.
Her mom shares, “She really represented all that is possible with rescued souls. She was a real den mother and a welcoming friend for the fosters who came our way.”
Those who foster dogs know that saying goodbye can be hard. Olive also felt the loss when one of ‘her’ fosters would leave, either through adoption or, as her family cared for many senior and palliative dogs, when they crossed the Bridge. But she was always ready and open to welcoming the next one in need.
In her final year, Olive took on a new role with the arrival of a new sibling in her family. She approached this role with dedication, becoming a loving teacher and a snuggly comforter, making sure this new pup felt welcomed and secure.
We are profoundly grateful for the joyful life Olive lived and for all the support she offered to other dogs in need of a fresh start. As she crosses the Rainbow Bridge, we know she will be greeted with open paws. Olive, your work here is done. It’s time to kick up your heels and soar high. You will be deeply missed, but your legacy of kindness and love will live on in our hearts.
Run free, sweet Olive. ♥️
